Youth action in combating maternal death
During the Uganda Model UN 2010 conference, young people declared and pledged to carry out clean-up activities in their communities in order to contribute to combating maternal death and real-ise MDGs.The Makerere University Business School chapter spear headed the drive starting with their Health Service Center. Nkumba University followed suit with various activities that highlighted the issues at their campus.
Other activities like arts exhibition, training, workshops and conferences disseminating MDGs, 7bil-lion action plan and maternal health information are being undertaken and are to run till the end of 2011.
UNAU appreciates the efforts of the young people from the respective chapters and calls upon other youth and community members to join the race to fight against maternal deaths in Uganda.

United Nations Association of Uganda on the fight to eradicate poverty
The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty has been observed every year since 1993, when the General Assembly, by resolution 47/196, designated this day to promote awareness of the need to eradicate poverty and destitution in all countries, particularly in developing countries — a need that has become a development priority.Poverty is an affront to human dignity. We believe everyone has a right to a decent living.
On the 06th October 2011 UNA-Uganda in collaboration with Mengo Secondary School commemorated the poverty day with the theme "Poverty and Human Dignity." A number of institutions took part in the commemoration these included teachers and students from Norway, Kololo, Old Kampala, Kalinabiri, and Nakasero Secondary Schools UN Clubs. Kyambogo University and Makerere University were also part of the great day.

Festivities to mark the United Nations Day 2011 were held at the Kyambogo University in Kampala jointly organised by United Nations Association of Uganda (UNAU), UN in Uganda and Kyambogo UNAU chapter.The UN Day falls on 24th October of every year and is recognized by all UN member states worldwide as the world body’s founding day.The UN has 193 member states with the Republic of South Sudan being latest of the states to join the UN flock.
Under the theme: “Harnessing youth towards sustainable development: Shared roles and responsibilities.” The UN Day commemoration was attended by over 200 youth from different education institutions that host UNAU chapters and UN Clubs. Various activities including music, dance, drama and poetry characterized the commemoration.
