United Nations Association of Uganda on the fight to eradicate poverty
The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty has been observed every  year since 1993, when the General Assembly, by resolution 47/196, designated  this day to promote awareness of the need to eradicate poverty and destitution  in all countries, particularly in developing countries — a need that has become a  development priority.
Poverty is an affront to human dignity. We believe everyone has a right to a  decent living.
On the 06th October 2011 UNA-Uganda in collaboration with Mengo Secondary  School commemorated the poverty day with the theme "Poverty and Human   Dignity." A number of institutions took part in the commemoration these  included teachers and students from Norway, Kololo, Old Kampala, Kalinabiri, and  Nakasero Secondary Schools UN Clubs. Kyambogo University and Makerere  University were also part of the great day.
Students from different schools were divided into groups and challenged to prepare a speech reflecting the theme. This was aimed at deepening the students understanding of the issues of poverty and human dignity, develop team spirit and also to enable the students have their say without influence from the elders.
